Abby and Steve’s wedding day started with a rain storm. They exchanged hand-written vows under a shared umbrella in Forest Park as raindrops fell around them. They soaked (literally and figuratively) in every moment of what their day held for them. They laughed, danced, whispered and held one another closely.
They met Freshman year of college at a basketball game. Their parents were sitting by each other at the game – he noticed her, as she was talking to her parents about a guy she had almost dated. While she was home for Christmas break, Steve began talking to people about her. When she finally came back from break, Steve stopped Abby to ask her out while she was walking with a mutual friend of theirs! Steve and Abby then went on a five hour date at a coffee shop.
When Steve proposed to Abby, he caught her totally by surprise. While they were off for Fall break, he took Abby to a place they had previously gone on a date together. She thought he may propose, but he tricked her by heading back to the car! Once they got there, Steve said that he had forgotten his watch at the area where they had been in the park. They went back to ‘grab his watch’, where he then finally proposed!
Once Abby and Steve were officially engaged, she went out with her Mom and Matron of Honor to pick out her wedding gown. The dress that Abby chose was the second one that she tried on! She tried on a few more dresses, but ended up sticking with the second one she tried on.
Their wedding vision was made up of simple elegance, exposed brick and a green and white color pallete. Abby wasn’t originally intending to look at Windows on Washington as their venue, but her parents ended up surprising her with a visit there – they all fell in love with it and chose to have it be the location of their wedding!
Abby’s Dad cut down a tree to build the cross they had at their ceremony, which meant so much to the two of them. Two of Abby’s other favorite elements were the flower rings hanging behind the head table and the gold chairs that Windows on Washington surprised them with! The veil that Abby wore on her wedding day was her matron of honor’s and the earrings that she had on were the same ones that her Mom wore on her wedding day, serving as something borrowed and something old.
Abby’s MOST favorite part of the day? It consists of two things. One – when Steve cried as she walked down the aisle toward him. Two? Doing a surprise Daddy-Daughter dance to a Michael Jackson song during their reception.
Without a doubt, their day was one for the books. It may have rained on their wedding day, but they laughed it off and soaked in every moment together.
Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. Lancaster!
Cheers,
Allison
